The best VPS for NinjaTrader automation is one that handles your actual workspace and preserves or restores the Windows session your applications need. Compare processor performance, memory and storage alongside remote-session timeouts, maintenance policies and recovery support. A reachable server alone does not show that NinjaTrader or its strategies are running.
Size the VPS for your workspace, not only its core count
NinjaTrader currently recommends a 2 GHz or faster quad-core processor, 8 GB RAM and SSD storage. Treat that as a starting point, not a guarantee for every strategy or add-on. Confirm the current supported operating system with the host; NinjaTrader lists Windows 11 and 64-bit Windows Server 2016 or later.
Processor clock speed matters when many charts use the same instrument. NinjaTrader explains that a workspace concentrated on one or a few instruments cannot benefit from multiple cores in the same way as a workspace spread across different instruments. More advertised virtual CPUs therefore do not establish a faster result for your setup.
Count all open workspaces, including those hidden behind the active one. Unneeded charts, historical days and Tick Replay can add load. Evaluate the intended workspace and custom components during a representative simulation session; an empty desktop or one clean chart is a different workload.
Closing Remote Desktop is different from signing out
A disconnected Remote Desktop session can keep its programs running. Signing out ends that Windows session. A provider policy can also end a disconnected session after a time limit, so closing the remote window is not enough to establish that an overnight application will remain open.
Ask the host which active, idle and disconnected-session limits apply. Microsoft exposes these controls under Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Session Time Limits. A disconnected-session limit or an end-session policy can change the outcome even when the VPS itself stays online.

Compare the support you actually need
Ask whether the quoted CPU resources are shared or dedicated, how plan upgrades work, and who handles Windows maintenance and remote-access failures. If latency is important, compare the route to your actual broker or data provider; a datacenter location or a host’s best-case figure is not a measurement of your connection.

Test the Windows return separately from application recovery
In a simulation setup, confirm a full reboot can return to the intended Windows session without you signing in through Remote Desktop. Then check application startup. A shortcut that runs after sign-in cannot by itself establish that unattended sign-in will happen.
For unattended reboot recovery, Windows must return to the intended signed-in session before Ninja Watchdog can resume. It can then relaunch NinjaTrader, reconnect accounts and attempt to restore previously tracked strategies.
